A Whole New Experience

Computer Resources

Each room in a WSU residence hall is wired with a high-speed connection to WSU ResNet. ResNet is the university’s residential campus network. It provides a dedicated connection to access WSU networked resources and the Internet. Residents must provide their own computer and Ethernet cable.

Getting Connected
Instructions are available on how to connect your computer to ResNet.  Go to the following Web page: http://www.computing.wayne.edu/resnet/#setup

Getting Help
If you need assistance with your ResNet connection, please contact the front desk of your building or call the Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) Help Desk at (313) 577-4778 or helpdesk@wayne.edu, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (summer hours); 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (fall & winter hours). If the C&IT Help Desk is unable to assist you at the time, they will create a support ticket and forward it to a ResNet technician. If you have a general question or comment about ResNet, send an e-mail to helpdesk@wayne.edu.

AntiVirus Protection
Before using ResNet you must install AntiVirus software on your computer. You can download a full-featured version of Symantec AntiVirus for free: http://computing.wayne.edu/software. NOTE: Before installing Symantec AntiVirus, uninstall any other anti-virus program.  After installing, set up the program's schedule (Live Update) to update regularly.

Computer Labs
The University Library System has more than 800 computers available for student use. The Undergraduate Library, located next to the residence halls, has more than 100 computers available in its 24-hour study center.

Acceptable Use
You must read the Wayne State University policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources and sign the registration sheet stating that you understand the policy and will abide by it. (Any misuse of the network will result in permanent disconnection.) Equipment connected to ResNet must meet standards of the ResNet Usage Policy.
