Residence Hall Assignments
Placement in the residence halls and apartment style housing is based upon the following:
- Submitted application and application fee payment date
- Medical needs that are documented in the assignments office
- Special interest community
- Age
- Class year, i.e., sophomore, junior...
- Application preferences
Room assignments, along with move-in information, are typically sent in mid-July for Fall and by mid-December for Winter Semester.
Students who are under the age of 18 must sign an Under 18 Parent/Guardian Consent Form. This must be returned to Office of Housing & Residential Life before an assignment can be made.
Roommate Assignments
We assign roommates based on information you provide on your application. You may also request a specific roommate on your online application. You will need your roommates full name and student ID number. All roommate requests must be mutual. Roommate requests received by July 1st will receive priority for fall assignment and roommate requests received by December 1st will receive priority for winter assignment. We cannot guarantee roommate requests made after the priority deadlines.
When you receive your room placement, you will also receive the name and WSU email address of your future roommate(s). We strongly encourage you to talk with your roommate and to coordinate who will bring what for the room. If you are unable to reach your assigned roommate(s) be patient and plan to bring the minimum items you feel that you need to move in.
The residence life staff is available to assist you in your transition to living on campus. They will assist you with resolving any roommate difficulties. Room changes may not be made without prior approval of the Community Director. Before a room change is considered, roommates must participate in the roommate mediation process and complete a roommate agreement form.
Room/Suite Style Waitlists
After viewing room assignments, students are welcome to add themselves to a waitlist for other specific room/suite/apartment styles. To sign up for a waitlist, email your name, 9-digit student ID number and your desired room type to Tasha Warfield at tasha.warfield@wayne.edu. Once on a waitlist and a room has become available, you will automatically be assigned to that room. It is your responsibility to contact Tasha Warfield and let her know you would like to be removed from a waitlist. We will do our best to accommodate waitlist requests until semester move-in dates for each semester. After the move-in dates waitlists are dissolved and students still interested in another room type are encouraged to participate in the Open Room Change Period.
Room Change Period
After the fall and winter semesters begin we will hold an open room change period. During this process students will have the opportunity to submit a request for a room or suite style. This process will take place approximately 3 weeks after fall classes begin and again 3 weeks after winter classes begin. You will be notified of specific Room Change Period dates through your Wayne State email.
