All residence hall students are eligible to become a member of the Hall Council for the hall/apartment building that they live in. Hall Councils help to promote a positive living/learning environment in our halls and apartments by working with University faculty, staff and administration to coordinate and create educational, social, recreational, cultural, and scholastic opportunities within the halls and apartments. They also assist the Community Director and the Director of Housing and Residential Life by giving input on issues and helping to shape policies that effect the community environment of our buildings.
Each council has an executive board that residents can run for and be voted on to. In addition, each council has student representatives that represent their particular floor and who help to coordinate programs and serve on committees. Information about how to run for a particular position will be available within the first two weeks of classes.
Some of the events organized by the Hall Council have included:
- Town hall meetings
- Weekend and evening programs
- Intramural teams, competitions, and cheering sections for sporting events
- Movies, dances and celebrations
- Educational and safety awareness programs
- Debates and proposals to change hall/apartment policies
For more information on becoming a member of hall council contact your Community Director or Resident Advisor.
The Hall Councils and Apartment Building Councils meet in each building's first floor community room.
