Self-selection process

Living in an on-campus residence hall or furnished apartment for an academic year? You get to participate in a self-selection process where you pick your building and room! This process has a few simple steps that vary by class-standing. Please check the timelines on this page to see important dates and deadlines that apply to you. After completing an application, make sure you regularly check your email for reminders and next steps

Self-Selection update

For the 2020-21 academic year, in order to manage housing occupancy and work to mitigate COVID-19 concerns, Self-Selection closed on June 4. The Office of Housing & Residential Life will utilize your preferences submitted in the housing application to make a room assignment for you. You will be notified via your Wayne State email account when you have been assigned.

There may be an opportunity for a limited open room change period later in the summer. We will share more information to your WSU email as it becomes available.

Please Note: If you have opted into a living learning community or The Thompson, you will be assigned a room in that community. A representative from that community will reach out to you to place you into that community. Please do not continue with the self-selection process. If you choose to change your room or pick a room in self-selection, it may remove your assignment from the community.
