Conference

Wayne State University is pleased to offer three different residential facilities to summer conference groups who are seeking temporary on-campus housing for their programs. All three facilities are conveniently located on the main campus in Midtown Detroit. Both short term and long term group stays are welcomed from approximately mid-May through early August. Group coordinators are encouraged to reserve space as soon as possible to ensure the availability of beds during your desired time frame.

  • Leon H. Atchison Hall

    The Leon H. Atchison Hall opened in the fall of 2003 and is home to over 400 students during the academic year.  Guests who choose to stay in Atchison Hall will share a dormitory type room that includes two extra-long twin size beds, two desks and closets, a private bath, air conditioning, laundry facilities, and a staffed 24-hour reception desk with card access system. 

    Atchison Hall is conveniently located at 5110 Anthony Wayne Drive adjacent to Jimmy John's, Starbuck's and Einstein Bros. Bagels, across the street from Parking Structure 2.

  • Yousif B. Ghafari Hall

    The Yousif B. Ghafari Hall opened in 2002 and is home to over 350 students during the academic year.  Guests who choose to stay in Ghafari Hall will share a dormitory type room that includes two extra-long twin size beds, two desks and closets, a private bath, air conditioning, laundry facilities, and a staffed 24-hour reception desk with card access system.  

    Ghafari Hall is conveniently located at 695 Williams Mall adjacent to Starbuck's, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Gold 'n' Greens dining.

  • Towers Residential Suites

    Towers Residential Suites is an 11 story tower on the campus of Wayne State University. The majority of the rooms are suite style, containing four bedrooms, attached to a shared living space.  Within the building are a café-style dining hall and multiple fitness/lounge areas. Also included is a private bath per suite, air conditioning, laundry facilities, and a staffed 24-hour reception desk with card access system.  Additional information regarding Towers Residential Suites may be found on the University's Housing website.  Smoking and alcohol are not permitted inside Towers. 

    Towers Residential Suites is conveniently located at 655 West Kirby near Freshii, Subway, Dunkin Donuts and University Pharmacy.

  • Amenities

    Keys and Conference Cards

    Guests will receive a room card.  Keys for individual bedrooms must be pre-arranged. The room card gives access to the residence hall, dining hall, and laundry facilities. Cash must be loaded onto the cards in order to operate laundry machines. There are designated machines to upload money onto conference cards. Money is non-refundable once it is on the conference card. Therefore, limit the amount uploaded. The fee for a lost room key is $150.00, a lost Conference card is $20.00, and room lockouts are $20.00 per instance.

    Laundry

    The residence facility is equipped with laundry rooms.  Laundry detergent is not available on site. The cost of using the normal sized washers and dryers per load are $1.50 each. Coin operated machines are available or funds can be added to the Conference Card to operate washers and dryers.  Funds added to a conference card are not refundable. There are machines in various buildings across campus for adding cash to your card.  A minimum of $5.00 must be loaded onto your cart at a CSVT machine.

    Linens

    A linen packet includes one pillow, 1 blanket, 1 sheet set, 1 bath towel and 1 washcloth at a cost of $10.00 per set. Linens must be pre-ordered.  Upon checkout, all linens should be pulled together into a pile and left in the room.

    Cable Television

    The rooms are cable ready though you must provide a television and coax cable to connect to the wall jack. You must provide your own cable cords and connections. Please arrange with your roommates to bring one TV per dorm room.

    Cell Phones

    Cell phones are permitted.

    Internet Access

    WSU-Public is a Wi-Fi network designed for Wayne State guests and visitors and is available across campus. To connect to WSU-Public:  1.  In the wireless internet options of your computer or mobile device, select SSID (network name) WSU-Public.  Launch a web browser.  The WSU-Public login should appear automatically.  If not, enter a URL, to see the WSU-Public login page.  3.  Review the terms of use and click login.  Click take me to the internet and you are connected. Note:  The network is available to the public, but use is subject to certain restrictions. Wireless internet access is available throughout the building at no additional charge.

    Workout Facilities

    A workout room is located on every other floor of the Towers Residential Suites and is available for use by those who are guests in that building.

  • Meeting spaces

    Experience our campus facilities whether it is a half-day seminar, overnight conference, wedding reception or an hour-long workshop.  Wayne State University is conveniently located in the heart of the University Cultural Center and has the accommodations to fit your needs.

    McGregor Memorial Conference Center is a recently renovated two-story multifaceted facility equipped to handle all your conference and dining needs.

    • Internet, video conferencing and webcasting capabilities

    Community Arts Auditorium is a renovated, spacious venue for your event with comfortable theater-style seating for 560 people.

    • 4.700 square foot outer gallery perfect for exhibits, receptions and overflow seating

    The Student Center has more than 15,500 square feet of flexible meeting space in a convenient and spacious multilevel facility.

    • 4,700 square feet of additional meeting rooms

    St. Andrew's Hall is a beautiful stone structure originally built in 1894 and completed in 1902.  In 1961 the Episcopal diocese leased the church to Wayne State University for 99 years.  St. Andrew's Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It has attractive stained glass windows and seating for 160, which makes it ideal for banquets, weddings and other formal occasions.

    Other meeting facilities are available to summer conference groups which include classrooms, auditoriums and a variety of lounge type venues.  Contact the summer conference group coordinator who is happy to provide you with one-stop-shop service for all your campus needs.

  • Dining/catering

    Wayne State University offers a multitude of dining options for individuals and for groups big and small. Eat in the Towers Café, an all-you-can-eat buffet, at each meal and enjoy the experience of dining in a traditional college setting. If your needs include a 100 percent vegetarian dining spot, then you must visit the trendy dining experience found in Gold 'n' Greens. Did we mention Gold 'n' Greens is all-you-can-eat as well?

    Wayne State Dining Services are also available to provide sumptuous catered meals. From box lunches to barbecues to a gourmet meal prepared by skilled chefs, your summer conference coordinator will make sure you speak to just the right person at WSU Dining Services. Browse some of the menu items.

    You decide how meal service will work best for you program.  We proudly offer the choice of pre-arranged catered meals, meal plans pre-encoded onto guest access cards, on a cash or a credit card basis or any combination. Your summer conference coordinator and Wayne State Dining Services will assist you in providing a tasty and a budget-friendly meal plan that is sure to please.

  • Payment options

    WSU provides a number of convenient ways to pay for your group's stay on campus. 50% of the total estimated contracted is due at the time of signing.

    Online check payments: Internet ACH is a secure method for paying your bill in a timely fashion. And it's free! Make your ACH payment online - Fee-free check payment via the web.

    Online credit card payments:  Credit card payments are accepted and processed by CashNet Smartpay. CashNet Smartpay is a third party payment processor operating under an agreement with Wayne State University to process electronic payments on your behalf. A convenience fee of 2.9% of the payment is charged for using this service.  Credit card payments are posted to accounts immediately. Discover, MasterCard and American Express cards are accepted. Make a payment by credit card.

    Check payments:  Wayne State University accepts business checks, cashier's checks and money orders. All checks must be issued in U.S. dollars, and drawn on, or payable through a U.S. or Canadian bank.  Make your check payable to: Wayne State University.

    Cash payments:  Cash payments are only accepted in person. You may pay in cash (U.S. Dollars only) during regular business hours at the following location.  It is best to have this pre-arranged with your WSU conference coordinator.

  • Check In and check out

    The staff at the front desk of your housing facility will cordially assist your guests to proceed through the check-in and check-out process as quickly as possible. WSU will provide up to three hours of on-site assistance for check-in and check-out. The number of desk staff assigned will be based on the size of the program. Participants, who are not able to check-in or check-out during the designated time period, should be noted as such on the delegate roster submitted two weeks prior to check-in.  Unfortunately, we are not able to accept walk-up requests for space by guests whose name does not appear on the roster.

    Each guest will be required to complete a room condition report at check-in and check-out.  Unless previously directed, each guest will receive an access card and a key if applicable. Failure to return a key will incur a fee.

    Should you require a table in the lobby of the housing facility for conference registration purposes, we will be happy to oblige whenever possible.
