Fall 2018 and Winter 2019

If you are 20 years of age or older and/or have junior standing and wish to live in the unfurnished apartments, view this information. Otherwise, continue reading.

You are filling out this application to live in a residence hall or furnished apartment from Saturday, August 25, 2018  Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  Once you complete the application and pay your $125 non-refundable application fee, you will be entered into a binding agreement to pay for housing from Saturday, August 24, 2018  Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

Prior to filling out your application, here are a few things to consider:

1. Housing options:  Review the residence hall room/suite layouts and corresponding rates to determine your living preference. Review housing options
2. Roommates:  If you want to live with a specific roommate(s), you will need their first name, last name, and their two-letter four digit Access ID to place in the roommate selection feature of the housing application. Everyone who wants to live together must apply for housing and request each other in order for us to honor your request.  Please understand that all requests cannot be honored.
3. Meal Plan: You will be asked to select a meal plan.  Freshmen must select one of the Warrior Pass meal plans.
4. Application fee:  At the end of the application, you will be required to make a $125 application fee, so you will need your credit card or checking account information to complete your application.  You will not be eligible for a room assignment until you have paid the application fee.
5. Under 18:  If you are under 18, both you and your parent or guardian will need to sign and return a copy of the license agreement where indicated.
6. Returning students: Information about the priority room selection process will be sent to you in a separate email.
7. Special Interest Communities:  Each residence hall has a list of special interest communities to choose from.  Look at the residence hall for more information about the specific community.  The list is as follows:

Ghafari Hall

• Community of Scholars  a floor in which students who receive Wayne State academic scholarships can live together
• Engineering - a floor for intended freshmen engineering students who want to live with students of the same major
• All Female  a floor for women who want to live in a single gender environment.
• Warriors Business Community  a floor for intended business majors who want to live with students of the same major.

Atchison Hall

• Honors Community  A community reserved for residents who are admitted into the Wayne State University Irvin D. Reid Honors College. (There are typically 2-3 floors of Honors students on campus per year.)
• College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts (CFPCA) Community  A wing of a floor reserved for freshmen residents who have a major in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts and who are interested in engaging, exploring and growing with other creatives. Students can go beyond their residence hall experience by attending cultural and social events, connecting with CFPCA faculty, and gaining a deeper appreciation for the arts. In addition to the Housing application, please complete the CFPCA Living Learning Community application on the CFPCA website above.

Towers Residential Suites

• Honors Community  A community reserved for residents who are admitted into the Wayne State University Irvin D. Reid Honors College. (There are typically 2-3 floors of Honors students on campus per year.)
• 24-hour Quiet Hour Community  A floor for students who are interested in a quiet living environment. Residents are required to sign and abide by the 24-hour Quiet Hour policy agreement.
• 21 and Up Community  A community for residents who are 21 and older, and looking to live with other older students.
• Graduate Community  A community of residents who are all graduate or professional level students.
• International Community  A floor for students who are interested in living with and/or learning about those who come from other cultures or geographic areas.

The Thompson 

• College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts Community  The Thompson is a housing option available that is reserved for upper-class (sophomore and above) residents who have a major in the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts. Themed living/learning opportunities focusing on entrepreneurship and professional development will be incorporated into the Thompson Home culture. Students wishing to live in The Thompson must complete a secondary application with the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts in addition to completing a housing license agreement. Students who wish to live in The Thompson will be assigned to a space and will not have the option to participate in the Self-Selection Period.

After you fill out your application and pay your application fee, you will enter a binding agreement with University Housing.  You will be responsible for all costs for living in housing for the entire length of the Housing and Dining License agreement from Saturday, August 25, 2018  Wednesday, May 1, 2019

Cancellation information

The only reasons you can cancel your license agreement are as follows:

• I can cancel for any reason up until June 30, 2019.
• I can cancel for any reason within 14 calendar days from the day I signed my license agreement. I understand that after I have checked in and picked up my key to my residence hall or furnished apartment space that the 14-day cancellation period no longer applies.
• I can cancel if I graduate or I am no longer an enrolled student at the University.  (Please note that enrollment in online courses or satellite campus courses count as being an enrolled student.)
• I can cancel if I participate in a student teaching assignment that is farther than 40 miles from WSU's Detroit campus.
• I can cancel if I participate in an out-of-state or out-of-country internship, co-op, or study abroad program.
• I can cancel if my medical documentation proves I developed a medical condition after signing my license agreement that campus housing cannot accommodate and prohibits living on campus. (Please note that the medical condition must be the student's and not a family member or a friend.)
• I can cancel if I am placed on a waiting list due to a lack of available housing spaces on campus.
