The Thompson

Located across Cass Avenue from Old Main, the historic Thompson Home is part of the University's "Arts on Cass" project. Refurbished in 2016 with the fine, performing and communication arts in mind, this residence hall contains specialized spaces throughout. Historic features such as fireplaces and a formal reception lounge have been preserved. Most rooms are doubles with three floors offering kitchenette and dining spaces and a comfortable lounge with bay windows. The Thompson is open to undergraduate students with sophomore, junior or senior standing in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. Students wishing to live in this building must complete a residence hall application and also a secondary application through CFPCA for the living-learning community.

At The Thompson, students in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFCPA) live together in a unique setting that fosters community with fellow creatives and supports students as they prepare for their professional futures. Everything about the recent Thompson remodel has been done with CFPCA students in mind. Thompson students can work 24-7 in the media lab, practice instruments, arias or monologues in the sound isolation practice booths, show a project to peers or practice a presentation using the glass writing wall and the AV equipment in the collaboratorium or choreograph in the multi-purpose room with sprung floor. The Thompson also has dedicated wall space for display of student art. Since Thompson residents have demanding schedules, the kitchenettes provide inviting spaces for preparing food at all hours and each floor has a comfortable lounge for student gatherings. In addition, opportunities to explore entrepreneurship will be on offer. In short, there is no better residence hall for CFPCA students seeking creative community than The Thompson.
